The Partly Cloudy Patriot is a collection of essays by Sarah Vowell (of NPR, and particularly "This American Life", fame). I feel a great deal of kinship with Ms. Vowell. She grew up in Montana; so did my parents1. She writes about Rainer Werner Fassbinder; so do I2. She is a good liberal, obsessed with history, particularly Civil War history, and has read Grant's autobiography; check, check, check, check.
1. I didn't grow up in Montana, but, Senator, I know people who did.
2. Well, okay, I am no expert on New German Cinema. However, that is one of the more amusing essays in the book. It has a spoiler around just how - if not why - Herr R. runs amok.
