Scarecrow Video had the DVD with the above title in their $2.50 second look section so I gave it a shot. Great title, directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later), costarring the always colorful Timothy Spall.
This movie about a morally bankrupt vacuum cleaner salesman was shot on digital video and looks a great deal like 28 Days Later. I learned from IMDB that this came out first. Perhaps an experiment by Mr. Boyle to see if he liked shooting on video. Certainly there were several eye-catching sequences.
The IMDB review says this is absolutely hilarious. I'd disagree; there were scenes that made me squirm with discomfort, although there are certainly many funny scenes. That review also compares it to "Death of a Salesman," which ...
***SPOILER***
I suppose is literally true but not particularly useful in telling you about the story. This ain't no Arthur Miller! More accurate to compare it to Training Day, only set in England and done as a black comedy about vacuum cleaner salesmen. Spall's character is the Denzel Washington role.
The title is said by Mr. Spall about halfway through the movie as he is talking about a dream. This was basically the only sympathetic moment for his character. It's also almost the only time he is not shouting wildly (usually while trying to sell someone a "vac").
Warning to Americans: Spall has a thick-as-soup Manchester accent which was a little impenetrable at times.
All in all, worth the $2.50 and the 75 minutes, although far from a must-see movie.
