The wind will carry us.

My cousin recently turned me on to the world music compilations of Charlie Gillet. World 2003 starts with a beautiful and haunting song "Le vent nous portera" by the French band Noir Désir.

For a quick summary of my recent musical explorations we can just say:
Noir Désir -> Manu Chao -> Amadou et Mariam

I have been listening to the CD "Dimanche à Bamako" quite a lot lately. It makes me very happy and is full of catchy melodies.

Back to Noir Désir though. Yann described them as a French version of Radiohead. That works. I just got "des Visages des Figures" because it had the song I liked from the world music compilation, lyrics here.

Too bad about this little anecdote though. It makes me feel a little creeped out when I listen to their music.
In 2003, [Noir Désir singer/guitarist] Bertrand Cantat beat his girlfriend Marie Trintignant unconscious during an argument in a hotel room in Lithuania. She died a few days later. A Lithuanian judge sentenced Cantat to 8 years in prison after he was found guilty of manslaughter. He is serving his sentence in a prison near Toulouse, France.
