Battlestar Galactica kicks ass

Wow, Tony. Thanks for the tip!

I watched the two box sets of the new Battlestar Galactica over the last couple of weeks. When they first announced the series, I was immediately not interested. I remembered the Daggit; the bad leather jackets; Lorne Greene as Admiral Ho-Hum Adama; and the corny theme music. Not to mention the whole thing was a Star Wars rip-off in the first place.

There are things I liked about the 70s series though. The phrase "By Your Command" as spoken through a vocoder; the weird mix of ancient religions; Dirk Benedict!

As to the last - when I heard Starbuck would be played by a woman, well, that was simply beyond the pale.

Wow, was I wrong. The show is great. Cylons look just like humans and have infiltrated the fleet. Some of them are very cute. The digital graphics are great. Edward James Olmos has his best role since Blade Runner. Gaius Baltar is a psycho who has either an imaginary Cylon girlfriend or a chip implanted in his head. Richard Hatch, who played Apollo in the original series, has a recurring guest star role and is a much better actor now than he was 28 years ago. Even the female Starbuck works.
